OK, I'd not seen this before, but if you are ever tempted to say "Fuggit!", get on your bike and head for the horizon then I reckon this would be equal parts inspiration and information...

[i]polyanarch posting in [i]motorcycles: So you say you can't afford a new VFR?

New, old-stock '07 tri-color VFR, official Honda of America close-out priced at $7,939.

See your local US Honda $tealership for more details.

Faced with a choice between this, and the new $16,000 VFU*120,000,000 with moped transmission and a sub-150-mile range, and it's a no-brainer IMHO.

Get them while they are hot! Once they are gone the only thing you'll be able to buy will be the 12 billion cc Shamu.

[info]badrap_blog: Sally Needs a New Home!
"A most wonderful wants-to-stay-anonymous donor gifted Sally to us and asked that she be auctioned off so we could get some dogs in that darned barn already! How amazing is that?"

The Sucker Punch Sallys Swinger is a modern suspension bike done in the tradition of a mid 1950's Harley Davidson FL; low stance, big fat fenders, spoked wheels and custom pinstriping. She's powered by an 88 cubic inch RevTech V-Twin with a 2-into-1 exhaust for easy cruising, channeling power through a 3 inch belt driven primary and a Baker 6 speed transmission. She features Harley Davidson controls and a 4.2 gallon split tank for long highway rides. The bike currently has 905 plus miles on it. The only minor defect is a little discoloration of the exhaust pipe. Other than that, she is flawless.

This is a charity auction for BADRAP, a non-profit organization that works to help homeless and victimized pit bulls and pit bull mixes. 100% of the proceeds from sale of this bike will be going to help BADRAP build a halfway house for pit bull victims of cruelty. Visit www.badrap.org/rescue/barnraising.cfm for more info. Thank you for bidding!

[i]hlw posting in [i]motorcycles: Twelve Important Things My Motorcycle Has Taught Me

The only good view of a thunderstorm is in your rear view mirror.

Four wheels move the body; two wheels move the soul.

I'd rather be riding my motorcycle and thinking about God, than sitting in church thinking about my bike.

Life may begin at 30, but it doesn't get real interesting until about 75 mph.

Midnight bugs taste just as bad as Noon time bugs.

Sometimes it takes a whole tank full of gas before you can think straight.

A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

Young riders pick a destination and go; old riders pick a direction and go.

When you're riding lead, don't spit.

Catching a yellow jacket in your shirt at 75 mph can double your vocabulary.

If you can't get it going with bungee cords and duct tape, it's serious.

Only a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out of a car window.

[i]desertmann2000 posting in [i]motorcycles: Need some help and or advice.

My brother recently purchased a 1986 Honda VT700C as a project. It appears that the only thing wrong with it is the fuel pump(3 wire variety). Unfortunately it is not available from Honda. I posted for one on Parts finder and haven't gotten a response yet. So I am looking for alternative sources. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jim

[i]motomuffin posting in [i]motorcycles: The Heated Gear Skinny

I just got back from some experimentation at my local bike shop.

They are a TourMaster dealer, and just started carrying the full line of Synergy heated gear, including gloves.

So I ask the dude behind the counter what the deal is with the Synergy stuff -- if my person is comfortable but my hands are cold, and I have the full Tourmaster setup, can I turn on the Synergy gloves without turning on the jacket? After several iterations, some restatements, clarifications and raised eyebrows, the short answer is no.

The long answer is "yes but." Cut to save the jerks who live in warm climates... )

My grandfather hasn't ridden a motorcycle since 1983. His '77 H-D is in the barn, rotting away, while he's out buying new bikes. Hmph... Anyway, here's the new member of my family.

[i]si_fuller posting in [i]motorcycles: Help!

My bike chain has a broken link, as far as I can see it's the joining link, it's missing the front half of its face. Problem is, I'm an hour away from home. I'm pretty sure the link hasn't deformed, or come loose at all. How safe is this?

[i]sarien posting in [i]motorcycles: Best Heated Gloves?

It's that time again. The holidays are coming up and I'm back to plead for motorcycle-gift advice. Unlike last time, I know a bit more about motorcycles. I've successfully finished an MSF class and almost have a bike of my own (should have enough saved next year). But, this isn't about me. :)

We just moved back to Texas and my boyfriend plans to use his sportsbike as a primary source of transportation (when weather is really bad, he's going to fall back on a gas guzzling beast of a truck). He used his old bike to commute for a couple of years before, but I still want to make it as easy as I can for him. I was thinking heated gloves or some other type of cold-weather gear.

Do any of you have suggestions on a particular brand/model? Or ones to stay away from? He has large/x-large hands, so something that is easily adjusted would be great. I don't plan to spend more than $200 if I can help it.

Thanks in advance!

(Last time I took a suggestion made here and booked him a trackday + riding course. He loved it. I also got the adorable motorcycle Christmas lights that somebody linked. You all rock)

[i]haddassah posting in [i]motorcycles: Planning a road trip

So, the husband and I are planning a Summer road trip. We live in Oregon and are planning on hopping on his 2008 Road Glide and going to the Grand Canyon.
We plan to stay in little motels in the evenings and just really enjoy the scenery during the days.
Here is my question for you guys....Is there a good website that can help me plot out our trip? I am looking for reccomendations for websites that are for motorcycle riders and are actually used by motorcycle riders.

We are thinking of the trip taking place in June. In summer of 2011 we will be doing another road trip to Mount Rushmore and will be taking that one before the Sturgis Rally so we can avoid the heavy crowds.
